Pupil Premium
Pupil Premium is additional funding provided to schools to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils. Schools decide how to use this funding by considering the barriers experienced by their pupils and the evidence about approaches that are most likely to make a positive difference.
Pupil Premium is not an individual budget for each eligible pupil. Funding may be used for targeted support or for wider approaches, including improvements to teaching, where these are designed to improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.
Our approach for 2026/27
Upton Primary School entered a period of leadership transition in September 2026. Since taking up post, the current headteacher and leadership team have been reviewing the school’s previous Pupil Premium strategy, available assessment and attendance information, existing provision and the barriers experienced by disadvantaged pupils.
This review is informing a revised approach for 2026/27. We will retain appropriate provision where it is supported by evidence, while establishing clearer priorities, costs, intended outcomes and arrangements for monitoring impact.
Our immediate priorities are to:

establish an accurate baseline for disadvantaged pupils;

strengthen high-quality teaching across the school;

provide carefully targeted academic support where it is needed;

improve attendance and reduce persistent absence;

address social, emotional and wider barriers to learning; and
-
evaluate the impact of funded activity more consistently.
The school’s completed Pupil Premium Strategy Statement for 2026/27 will be published on this page by 31 December 2026, in accordance with Department for Education requirements.
Previous strategy
The school’s 2025/26 strategy was developed and implemented before the current headteacher took up post. It remains available as the school’s historical record for that academic year.
The current leadership team is reviewing the available evidence from 2025/26 to identify what should continue, what requires strengthening and what should not be carried forward without clearer evidence of impact.
